The Lost Spring

The Lost Spring Geothermal Pool and Day Spa is definitely worth a visit. Soak away the stress of the real world as the healing waters rejuvenate your body, mind and soul. Bookings are essential at this extremely popular attraction.

Situated 667 meters underground lies an ancient geothermal spring. The water, which ranges in temperature from 32 to 40 degrees, fills the pools with water that is 16,000 years old. Highly mineralised, the ancient waters have been tested and have a 7.4 pH level.

— Hot Water Beach

Whether you are local or from overseas, Hot Water Beach is somewhere you must visit. The beach features a hot water river which heads to the surface as it meets the ocean. Bring your own spade or hire one from Hotties Café or Hot Water Beach Café and dig a hole to experience the heat. The best time is at low tide or 90 minutes either side of low tide.

The beach is at its best in summer with beautiful Pohutukawa trees at each end. Hot Water Beach also offers cafés and art galleries.

The beach is also good for swimming but remember to check conditions and swim between the flags if they are in operation. You can park at The Main Beach carpark, Te Waiwai carpark and the Main Store carpark.

— Whitianga Wharf

Would you like to join a scenic tour? Perhaps you fancy chartering a boat for an epic fishing or diving adventure with your family? If so, there are many tour operators and charters that leave from this wharf.

If you don't have a rental car, there is a passenger ferry that leaves Whitianga Wharf for Flaxmill Bay, Cooks Beach, Hahei Beach and Hot Water Beach. To view current timetables and fares, please click here.

— Cathedral Cove

Cathedral Cove is a popular tourist attraction that lies between Hahei Beach and Cooks Beach. There is a pretty sandstone archway that separates these two small beaches. You can only access Cathedral Cove by walking from Hahei Beach or via boat. Consider packing a lovely picnic lunch while enjoying the spectacular scenery.

— New Chums Beach

New Chums Beach is a well-kept local secret. The beach is a 30-minute walk north of Whangapoua. A visit at sunrise or sunset is particularly spectacular.

— Kuaotunu Beach

Kuaotunu, north of Whitianga, is a great place to start your exploration of the Coromandel Peninsula. It has plenty of open beaches to explore.

— Coromandel Township & Restaurants

Coromandel Town is a quiet, historical town with a variety of local arts and crafts on offer. From walking tracks to beaches and New Zealand's steepest, narrow-gauge railway, the township of Coromandel is certainly worth visiting. If delectable dining is high on your holiday agenda, please talk to your hosts. We can advise you where the best restaurants for seafood, vegetarian fare and fine wines can be found.
